Awasa is a town in Ethiopia, on the shores of Lake Awasa.

It is the capital of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region.

As of 2002 its population was 103,725.

The town lies on the Addis Ababa - Nairobi road.

Fishing is a major local industry.

The town is also home to a market and was formerly capital of Sidamo province.
